When I called the Stuit house yesterday for a daily report, Marcus answered the phone. I was a little surprised to hear his voice, and asked how he was doing. Oh I"m fine, was his standard reply. We chatted a bit before he turned the phone over to his wife, who gave me a few more details on his condition. He remains on oxygen and tires easily.
In one of our conversations a week or so ago, I told Marc about all the people who ask about him and who say they are praying for him. He seemed surprised by that. He said he couldn't' imagine all that fuss over such a simple man. I told him I thought most of these people thought he was not so simple, but pretty special. He looked at me, and said, All I ever wanted to do was live a simple life.
I think it just might be Marc's "simple life" and faith that is reaching and touching so many of us now. Every where I go, someone will stop to say something about Marc and again assure us that they are praying. These comments and prayers always bolster my day, and I would just ask that you be sure to share those comments with Marc. The days get long at home, and even though Jude told me they left the radio on over night last night, let's face it, even my FAMILY gets weary of hearing me!
So thanks again for your thoughts, prayers, comments, cards, they are all appreciated.

Dear Marc and family,
We do not know each other, but you (Marc) worked with my husband Jeremy. I do not know how close you were relationship-wise, but I can tell you that Jeremy has been impacted by the way you have lived your life so far.
I first heard your name a few weeks ago...well, I suppose that is not true. Jeremy has mentioned your name every so often just in passing as he talks about work. But Jeremy told me just recently about your last day at work, and how surprised he was to hear about your melanoma. Since that time, he has spoken to me quite a bit about you and about how impressed he has been with your Godly testimony and lack of complaint.
Your joyfulness in the midst of pain has brought him up short, and it has caused him to re-evaluate his own priorities and source of joy. And hearing him think out loud, is causing me to also stop and make sure that my focus is on God alone.
Because you are living your life God's way, God is using you as a tool in our lives. For this, we are grateful. :-)
You are all in my continued daily prayers. I'm sitting here in the library at Dordt looking out the window at the sunshine and reading this update and thinking: isn't it awesome how God chooses "simple people" like us, saves us, and uses us in his world? Marc you are special and I admire your courage and faith. May God continue to strengthen you all.
Hi Marc,
You can be sure that people are praying for your all around the world. Our Community Group is praying here in Lakeland, for you and your whole family. They are a great group of Christians and you can be assured that they are lifting your needs up to the Lord on a daily basis. Your courage thru God's grace is touching lives in ways you can't begin to imagine.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his purpose. Rm 8:28

Bev reported, "I told Marc about all the people who ask about him and who say they are praying for him. He seemed surprised by that. He said he couldn't' imagine all that fuss over such a simple man."
Marc, let's not be confusing SIMPLE with of-little-value.
As you well know, Jesus valued simple things like sparrows, hair totals, leftovers, mustard seeds, and children, and regularly (as in unceasingly) makes a 'fuss' over them. Our making a 'fuss' over you -more valuable than a whole flock of sparrows- is as it should be.
Not to mention that making a fuss over you is equivalent to making a fuss over Christ, which sheds fresh light on fuss-making.
All for fussing,
Connie Hoogeveen
